Announcement

With great sadness I have to announce that my father passed away at Sandro Pertini Hospital, Rome, on Wednesday, June 23 2010.

I wish to thank all those around the word who have sent messages of condolence and  expressed gratitude for his work. My father will be greatly missed by us all, but I am sure his work will continue to influence many coaches.

In the last years of his life it was his will to divulgate his work in English directly under our control so that many of the misinterpretations due to inaccuracy of translation made in the past from his Russian manuscripts and articles could be understood.

The first step of this project was the website on which we started to publish articles and manuscripts and, according to his will, the site will continue to be open until all his works have been published.

Activity of muscles in vertical jumping
Good day Professor Verkhoshansky,

There is  a discussion on drsquat.com  between Dr. Hatfield and Dr. Yessis regarding the activity of the muscles involved in vertical jumping and vertical jump technique. I speak for many others when I say that your input to the topic discussed would be very interesting to read as well.

Here is the link to thread:

Re: Activity of muscles in vertical jumping

Dear Nizar Abu-Hamdeh,

“What is more important in vertical jump power: quads or glutes/hamstrings?” It’s impossible to answer to the question in absolute terms.

In the vertical jump are involved all legs muscles, from glutes to calves, in a “conjugate” sequence.

In the Vertical Jump power output,  the contribution of each of these muscle groups depends on the specific characteristic of athlete and on his sport specialization.

Probably, Weightlifters, that have a more powerful Glutes/Hamstrings, use more Glutes/Hamstrings than Quads. Runners, that have a more powerful and fast Quads, use more Quads than Glutes/Hamstring.

Re: Activity of muscles in vertical jumping

Which weight training program can I use during depth jump period with squat, bench press and pull ups?

Should I stay under5 reps in series?

Should I go to exaustion in each set or is it counterproductive for cns and strenght gains?

Thank you.

Sergio Gabba.

Re: Activity of muscles in vertical jumping

Dear Sergio Gabba,

Which weight training program can I use during depth jump period with squat, bench press and pull ups?

There are a lot of training programs in my Italian book “Tutto sul metodo d’urto”.

Should I stay under5 reps in series?

Yes, but it’s better to perform 10 Depth Jumps in series.

Should I go to exhaustion in each set or is it counterproductive for CNS and strength gains?

You must not “go to exhaustion in each set” because it is counterproductive for CNS.
