Block periodization
Dear Professor,
I read and appreciate your article "Basi fisiologiche e principi metodologici nella corsa di resistenza" in "Le bvasi scientifiche dell'allenamento in atletica leggera" published by Fidal. I have a question about the duration of the blocks A, B and C: which is the duration of each of the three blocks in case of single and double periodization of the training?

Thanks
Andrea Cavagna

Re: Block periodization

Dear Andrea Cavagna,

First of all, I’d like to give a warning regarding my Italian publications. I do not know who translated my article “Basi fisiologiche e principi metodologici nella corsa di resistenza”

(I was told by my daughter that it’s not a bad translation), but unluckily the person who translates my books and articles from Russian to Italian doesn’t have an appropriate knowledge about sport training.

So, while the texts are grammatically correct, there could be misinterpretations of Russian terms or words that change the sense of translated phrases.

The total duration of blocks A,B,C is equal to the time frame that the athlete has at disposition for the preparation of his main competition (the most important competition of the calendar). Duration of each block is equal, but it can change in relation with the athlete and competitions calendar.  For example, in endurance sport disciplines, the duration of block A can be longer than block B and C.
