BTS and young athletes
Dear Professor,
in your publications you always refer to high-level athletes; I tried to apply BTS also to master athletes that have a normal work and a few time for training; they appreciate the different exercises used in Block A and B (specially LME exercises) and also have improved their performance or maintained the level with less time spent in training.
Based on  this results on non high level athletes, I have a question for you: do you think that BTS could be applied also to young athletes (form 15-16 years old)?

Thank you
Andrea

Re: BTS and young athletes

Dear Andrea Cavagna,

The Block Training System is usually finalized to the training of high level athletes not because this model cannot assure increase of sport results in middle level athletes, but because the BTS model represents the last possible way to intensify the training process. BTS is the most powerful training “tool” that a coach has in his arsenal and he should use it only when other training models don’t bring any significant improvement to the athlete’s results.

For these reasons I think that at the beginning of athlete’s track record, especially in young age, it’s better use other training methods which are less invasive in his organism transformation.
